  Impact of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on JW policies and procedures

  the royal commission is not yet over.

  the summary of findings on jws is not the end of the story.

  the legal process is unfolding and the only open question is the extent to which jw organization in australia will be legally mandated to change its policies and procedures on child sexual abuse.. (on the question of shunning those who leave, the commission is well intended but has strayed beyond its legal brief.

  I think the shunning issue is apt to the situation of those abused being manipulated by the fear of shunning. It had to be fleshed out by the Commission to display the full impact of how shunning could never be "best standard" of care for abuse victims.

  Watchtower is definitely learning lessons, despite the stance they take in written response. They are taking a huge hit in PR, which affects their bottom line. JWs will leave. There will be fewer converts. Nobody likes an organization that protects pedophiles and puts themselves above the best interests of children.

  Watchtower is on their heels with the Commission still coming at them. Watchtower's responses are just more fodder for Angus to formulate even more damning opinions.

  i've quickly read through watchtower's submission to the royal commission.

  seems like they aren't planning to change policy anytime soon.

  they are critical of how the royal commission handled the situation.. the tone is of the submission is shear arrogance.

  Theocratic Ministry School cancelled. Why?

  is it possible this aspect of the meeting was cancelled so that jws would not be categorized as a "school" where in many areas elders and ministerial servants would have to submit to a background check by secular authorities?

  this is my first post but i've been lurking for some time.

  ive just spoken to a friend of mine from my jw days who isnt aware that i no longer associate.

  hes the coordinator of the body of elders in his congregation so i suppose he does know something of whats going on at the wt.

  The thought of coming up with $900-$3500 a month for a place of their own or even shared, is enough to scare most bethelites straight back into morning worship buggle call for as long as they can handle it. I feel sorry for them too. Its just real life avoidance like college and the military with less residual benefits.

  Optimist: Watchtower MUST be hurting for money. Look at all the downsizing and begging for money.

  Pessimist: NO WAY they are hurting. They just sold property worth half a billion with half a billion more to go and they get a billion a year in donations. Appearing to be hurting is only a ploy to get more donations.

  Antagonist: We will never know. So just STFU about it.

  Conspiracist: What about the billions of dollars those Gilead missionaries got caught with on the Swiss/Italian border, and the secret tunnels under Brooklyn?

  Sex and Marriage

  most religions indoctrinate a standard sexual 'morality' into their followers.

  sex before marriage is wrong, gay sex is wrong, same sex marriage is wrong, masturbation is wrong.. let's not turn this into another religion bashing thread (too easy), i was wondering how much of that pre-packaged thinking you still hold to?.

  But that should come naturally and not perpetuated or enforced by a piece of paper or religious pressure. Too many stay in horribly destructive relationships to appease both. Despite the fact divorce rate is 50%.

  That is their way of telling Brooklyn Bethelites that the free ride is over. Rents are cheaper in Wallkill and Patterson, go there and try your luck while integrating with local congregations. Oh and...NY congregations are tired of you Bethelites and carrying your ass.
